My favorite island in the stream is changing and I don't think it is for the best. I have no probem with construction,
as growth is a fact of life, but it must be well planned and thought out. It must take into account the fragile environment
around us and the planning must take into account leaving our world as a better place for us all to inhabit.
This photo
is a view of the construction on the north end of the island before the homes starting being built, but with the site work underway.
Once you click on this photo, you will see how close the houses and the power poles are to the water's edge. When there is a storm and if the poles (nevermind the homes)
fall into the surf, wonder how long the homes will be without power or phone service?
Click on this photo and notice the evident erosion and beach litter. I wonder if anyone can look at this photo and think the land is
stable?
Click on this photo to see another view of the not so solid ground in front of the homes and power poles. Again, I can't imagine anyone looking at these photos
and feeling safe about what would happen if any kind of serious wave action happened upon these shores. I have never seen the Bimini beaches
as littered as these photos are indicating.
Click on this photo and see the solid bedrock. Also, notice how close the homes and power poles are to the obvious erosion. I doubt I
need to mention all the debris and litter on the beach.
A view of the construction from a boater's point of view. Why does storm surge come to my mind?
More evidence of erosion, not so stable fill and litter, of course.
If anyone has any photos to share with me of the construction, I would really appreciate
you e-mailing them to me.
